Returning to Work on a Modified Assignment or Limited Duty
During the life of your claim there may arise a time that your doctor, or a doctor from an OWCP directed medical exam, may determine you can return to work in some capacity. The doctor might give you specific restrictions or reduce the number of hours you are capable of working, or both. Whenever a doctor releases you back to some type of employment, OWCP requires your employer to offer employment to you because OWCP is not a retirement program, and they don't want to pay you compensation to be out of work when there might be work available for you. When your employer offers you limited duty or a modified assignment, you are going to be pressured by your employer and OWCP to accept the job offer. Before you succumb to the pressure, you should know that you have rights that our advocates are ready to explain to you. Don't give your rights away because you are scared you will lose your benefits. Contact us to find out what your rights are when it comes to modified job offers.
